This installation featured three crank-operated animation devices, based on the 19th century Mutoscope. Each device contains a circular book, which rotates on an axis. Each page of this book is displayed one at a time, like the pages of a flipbook.
When a viewer turns the crank, he or she animates the series of 170 rotating pages in an illuminated chamber. The pages move faster (with a faster animated "frame rate") when the viewer turns the crank more quickly.
Because the pages are bound on a circle, no viewer starts the animation at the same point, and each gets a private showing at their chosen speed and duration.
